Program 28- Mistakes Were Made
“Prick” Summary: One man seems to be immune from Karma regardless of how badly he behaves.
DIR: Lucien Flynn
WRI: Lee Fleming, Ben Reynolds
PRO: Lucien Flynn, Ben Andrews
Could be a funny short but isn’t played out well enough to really be funny. Overall the main character just angered me, he gets away with every bad deed he commits without any consequence or punishment all the way to the end. Also shot dramatically, comedy should have more quick cuts and cutaways. 5/10
“Love Hate” Summary: An affair between a young charity worker and a mysterious woman who turns out to be the physical embodiment of his hatred.
DIR/WRI: Dylan Ritson, Blake Ritson
PRO: Scott Jacobson
Well shot, written and acted! Takes a somewhat unoriginal idea and captivates the audience with clever shots and fantastically delivered lines. This one doesn’t necessarily have a happy ending and leaves us wanting to know where the protagonist will go next. 8/10
“Sugar Stick” Summary: Mary is trapped in a toxic friendship. Miriam, with her chain-smoking and vicious tongue, is that toxic friend. Morning tea and vitriol. There is no smoke without fire.
DIR/WRI/PRO:
A to the point poignant tale of friendship and the hatred that sometimes ensues, leaving one friend with the decision as harsh as murder as the only means out. It def. has its comedic parts, however, and has a bit of charm to this two person drama. We are neither sad nor happy at the end, instead personally noting to cherish our friendships.

Program 29- All’s Fair in Art and Business
“Unpunished” Summary: With commissions for stolen art, one man makes a decision to provide a lavish lifestyle for himself and his family even with the cost of an innocent man’s life.
US 14 min
DIR/WRI: Juan Ramon Cordova
PRO: Juan Ramon Cordova, Mike Torres
A drama based on true events of the burglary of a church in Mexico involving a painting that was then sold to the San Diego Museum of Art for nearly $48,000. In the process of the burglary an old church keeper was killed. The film shows the consequences of the stolen art piece and the effect on the families it has touched in some way. The shots are nicely put together and showcase the filmmakers talent to show a story almost solely through images. 9/10
“Worth” Summary: When a non-descript violin shows up at an upscale auction it seems wildly out of place. But who decides what something or someone is really worth?
US 8 min.
DIR/WRI: Kathi Carey
PRO: Kathi Carey, David Manship
A drama that anecdotes a few ageless themes: that one mustn’t judge a book by its cover and one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The bid begins at $1,000 but is quickly reduced to $100 for a unmarked, torn up violin. Then, the janitor, the most unlikely of fellows, takes the violin and playa a beautiful song. He finishes and the bidders begin a war that ends for the viewer as we hear $20,000 shouted from the crowd. The score is gorgeous and the shots just as melodic. 8/10
